This 40 hour program is designed for recently assigned juvenile officers and provides them with the basic skills and knowledge required to fulfill their roles and responsibilities. In addition, officers will discuss current trends, issues, and challenges they will meet in the juvenile system. Daily topics include: Day 1 - Role and responsibility of the Juvenile Officer - Gaining perspectives on the assignment - Communicating with adolescents and parents - Adolescents and the media - Intervention and the five prevention strategies Days 2 & 3 - Juvenile Court Act (Chapter 705) - General provisions - Abused, neglected, and dependent minors - Minors requiring authoritative intervention - Delinquent minors Days 4 & 5 - Psycho-dynamics of child abuse - Role of law enforcement and social services - Protective custody - Investigative techniques - Preparing child abuse cases for court - Sexual abuse and sexual exploitation investigations ALL STUDENTS SHOULD BRING NOTE-TAKING MATERIALS AND A HIGHLIGHTER TO CLASS. This course has been certified by the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board and is not reimbursable by the ILETSB.
