This 16 hour train-the-trainer program is designed to instruct officers in the legal, policy, and tactical issues related to the lawful and justifiable use of force in the course of police duties. This program will cover mandated State of Illinois use of force objectives and expand upon them. -Human performance science related to high stress response will be studied so that students might better understand how and why officers respond and make high-speed decisions during critical incidents. -Review of applicable federal and state statutes, case law, and policies will provide student officers with the knowledge needed to return to their respective agencies and develop effective courses of on-going study and instruction for all officers as required by the Police and Community Relations Improvement Act and ILETSB policy regarding the certification of in-house use of force training programs. Other use of force-related topics to be covered in this program include: - Procedural justice, deescalation, disengagement, tactical patience, and perception challenges - Human performance as it relates to force use and judgement, including time framing, time to start/time to stop, perseveration, visual narrowing, inattention blindness, and memory challenges in violent events - Pre-event preparation issues, including an overview of "Left of Bang" concepts and behavior analysis - Force documentation, articulation, and the importance of story-telling techniques to accurately describe behavior
